Respirators

Are respirators required to be worn by employees in your organization?

According to 1910.134(e)(1) "The employer shall provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator, before the employee is fit tested or required to use the respirator in the workplace. The employer may discontinue an employee's medical evaluations when the employee is no longer required to use a respirator".

For only $20 per employee SafeAssure's online medical questionnaire is easy, secure, and meets the requirements set forth in the Respiratory Protection Standard 1910.34(e)(1).

Employees required to wear a respirator as part of their job description can complete the MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRE electronically. Once completed and submitted, OSHA requires that this questionnaire be provided (confidentially) to a healthcare professional for review and approval/denial. SafeAssure retains a qualified medical professional (as required 1910.134(e)(2)(i)) on staff to review and approve/deny employee respirator use.

Does SafeAssure provide annual fit tests as required by OSHA?

SafeAssure provides OSHA compliant qualitative fit tests for negative pressure masks for our clients as part of a larger "Full Circle of Safety" contract. SafeAssure currently does not provide qualitative fit testing as a "stand alone" service.

Note: If Quantitative fit tests are required by NFPA EMS Standards such as for Self Contained Breathing Apparatus’ (SCBA) SafeAssure outsources these tests to a local reliable learning institution specializing in the quantitative fit testing requirements.
